Whit's Wit

I store the diet, dry dog food in a closed plastic container on top of the refrigerator; yet I put two bags of Sun Chips and a bag of almonds on the floor under the table.

Seems to me that the wrong one got punished this morning for having a picnic.

Whit's Wit Two for Tuesday!

My Niece just informed me that her 18 month old calls her new phone a HI! Phone...I think that makes so much more sense!

Me and Keaden

Who Knew?

My Sheltie, Zoe, is our weather guide.  We can tell how bad a storm is by her actions.  For example, last night we had incredibly strong winds and rain and lots of thunder and lightening.  However, we were unafraid because Zoe was calm, cool ...and sound asleep.  Had we been in any danger, she would have been pacing, panting and, well, in our bed!

This is just one example of how interesting our canine buddies are!  Here are a few more interesting doggy tidbits:

  1. An estimated 1,000,000 dogs in the U.S. have been named as the primary beneficiaries in their owner’s will
  2. An American Animal Hospital Assoc. poll found that 33% of dog owners admit to talking to their dogs on the phone and leaving answering machine messages for them while away
  3. Dog’s nose prints are as unique as a human’s finger prints and can be used to accurately identify them
  4. Dogs' only sweat glands are between their paw pads
  5. Dogs have no sense of "time" (I beg to differ - my dogs know EXACTLY when it is breakfast and dinner time!)
  6. An African wolf dog known as the basenji is the only dog in the world that cannot bark
  7. The longer a dog's nose, the more effective its internal cooling system
  8. The world's smartest dogs are thought to be (1) the border collie, (2) the poodle, and (3) the golden retriever (and sheltie and labrador!)
  9. ... while the dumbest dog is believed to be the Afghan hound (maybe he just needs more attention)
  10. The average city dog lives 3 years longer than a country dog

Wait...WHAT?

A terracotta bust of Marianne -the traditional female embodiment of the French Republic in a Phrygian cap - has been removed from the town square of Neuville-en-Ferrain....because her 'bust' was "too big".  French Mayor Gerard Cordon persuaded his council to replace the 2007 bust (created by Catherine Lamacque) with one of Marianne that shows a smaller, less embarrassing bustline.  Catherine Lamacque states that the larger breasts were done intentionally to "symbolize the generosity of the republic".

The bust was originally chosen by Mayor Cordon in 2007 from several different designs before it was made.  He is said to have made the decision for its removal alone, but one  town hall employee explained: "It was making people gossip. Remarks were made, during weddings for example."

Now I guess all the have to gossip about is the Mayor.

Whit's Wisdom

Time for another recycle, reuse, repurpose and reinvent!

I'm ashamed to admit that this next one is not one that I thought of because it's so obvious...and brilliant!
The Binder Clip

Keep that toothpaste squeezed and rolled to make sure you get each and ever drop of it.

The binder clip cable holder.  This is one of the most intelligent things I
have ever seen.

Whit's Wit

I think I've finally chosen my next career.  I'm going to be the Door Handle Jiggler (DHJ) at the Doctor's office.

Confused?  You know....the person who walks up and down the hallway and jiggles the door handles of each examining room.....making you THINK the Doctor is about to walk in...but then DOESN'T...

Who Knew?

During the Great Depression, "American Tramp and Underworld Slang" by Godfry Irwin was published.  In this book Irwin explains the differences between Bum, Tramp and Hobo.

A bum loafs and sits; a tramp loafs and walks - while a hobo moves and works.  Hobo is derived from the slang phrase "hoeboy".  It is believe that this term originated because many of the men riding the rails searching for work would bring with them a hoe in hopes they would find farm work.

Perhaps this would explain why Hobos are often portrayed with their belongings tied to 'sticks'....they are actually hoes.
