And those birthdays, anniversaries and other gift-giving holidays don't jump around either. So why do we always seem so surprised when we have to rush out the day before (or OF!) to pick up a gift for someone, and spend twice as much as you would like?
Stop the madness and start purchasing gifts when you find something your loved one would like and just put it away until the big day. Take advantage of sales - if you have a child in the family go ahead and buy some of the basic toys (Barbies, trucks and cars, puzzles, books, etc.) when you find them discounted. Perfumes, body sprays, soaps, lotions, hair accessories, nail polish - girly items - are fantastic gifts and can be purchased and stored. There are even specials throughout the year on Gift Cards from stores where you can, for example, spend $40 for a $50 card. As long as there is no expiration date, go ahead and purchase it and hide it away. (Just make sure you remember where you put all of this stuff! I still can't find my daughter's 18th birthday card and she is about to turn 21!)
If you have children who are always being invited to birthday parties, start stocking up on some inexpensive gifts for their friends. It is fantastic when a kid can 'go shopping' in the present bin and YOU are shelling out $25+ every weekend for a gift!
