Whit's Wisdom

Can you REALLY AFFORD that new car? Wait six months to purchase. Take the payment amount and put it in a savings account each month. If you withdraw ANY money from that account - you can't afford the car. If you don't - you have a great down payment for your New Car!
Before you go "new" though - check out the previously owned (f/k/a USED) vehicles.  Remember, as soon as you drive that NEW car off the lot it depreciates significantly in value.

  1. I guess the same can be said for kids, houses, cars, etc.

But If I did that with my child, I would have never have had a child. Sometimes you just have to -make- things work.

But it's a good idea, nonetheless, especially if you're worried about being budget-conscious.

  2. I'm a huge Dave Ramsey fan and even HE says that you shouldn't wait until you can afford it to have a child - or you'll be waiting forever! He says that there might be other reasons to wait, but money shouldn't be the deciding factor.

His theory is that children don't really cost that much (under normal, healthy circumstances). The money that we spend is our choice. I have to say I agree with this too!
