Wait....WHAT?

I know this received media attention earlier this year, but I believe it is worth repeating.

An online people search website, Spokeo.com, potentially contains information on you that you will not want to share with the world!  Touting "Not Your Grandma's White Pages" on their home page, Spokeo offers pictures, bio (birthday, names of family members, address, etc), social networks, email, wealth, hobbies information on everyone in there database.  A lot of the information is free of charge. Several of my family members, including me, were listed on this website with tons of personal information about us, as well as pictures of our homes.

Here is a link to Snopes.com providing more information:  http://www.snopes.com/computer/internet/spokeo.asp

Snopes suggests you go to the Spokeo website (linked here:  http://www.spokeo.com/ ) and search to see if you and your family are listed in this database.  If so, you can scroll to the bottom right hand side of the screen and click on the PRIVACY link.  Follow the instructions there to have your information removed from their site.  Please be sure to provide a valid email address because you will need to click on a confirmation email to finalize the removal process.  If you have lived in multiple states, I would suggest you search your name in ALL states where you have lived.
