Wait...WHAT?

A terracotta bust of Marianne -the traditional female embodiment of the French Republic in a Phrygian cap - has been removed from the town square of Neuville-en-Ferrain....because her 'bust' was "too big".  French Mayor Gerard Cordon persuaded his council to replace the 2007 bust (created by Catherine Lamacque) with one of Marianne that shows a smaller, less embarrassing bustline.  Catherine Lamacque states that the larger breasts were done intentionally to "symbolize the generosity of the republic".

The bust was originally chosen by Mayor Cordon in 2007 from several different designs before it was made.  He is said to have made the decision for its removal alone, but one  town hall employee explained: "It was making people gossip. Remarks were made, during weddings for example."

Now I guess all the have to gossip about is the Mayor.
